A veteran broadcaster and journalist, Amy Wachtel, better known as THE NIGHT NURSE, has been associated with ‘conscious’ reggae music since the 1980′s. Her long-running show, “ROCKERS ARENA” was a Monday night staple on WBAU-FM for close to a decade, and then on WNWK 105.9 FM. Her columns appeared regularly in CMJ, Reggae Report Magazine and the UK’s Echoes. Amy believes that reggae is a soothing, healing, uplifting music. Officially Sponsored by FANIA RECORDS, Barcelona native DJ Turmix is an avid vinyl collector and renowned expert in boogaloo, Latin soul and Latin grooves from the 50′s and 60′s. After an 18-year career in Spain and Europe, DJ Turmix packed up his records from Barcelona and hit the NYC scene in 2008. The film dove into the lives and struggles of up-and-coming Cuban hip-hop artists while touching on sentiments revolving around the complex political climate of the island. Each week on Radio Lily, Ms. Saizarbitoria plays an educated mix of Latin music from the past, present, and future.

Born in Jamaica, Belinda Becker is a legendary New York City DJ who has played in some of the world’s most prestigious nightclubs. Ms. Becker is renowned for her elegant mixes of funk, soul, and tropical sounds. In 2005, she was inducted into the New York Nightlife Hall Of Fame.

Exposed to a musical dance heritage at an early age, Becker is also an accomplished dancer who has studied West African dance at Paris’ Centre du Marais. Upon her return to New York, she studied Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Brazilian dance with Baba Richard Gonzalez and performed with Pat Hall at the Dance Theater Workshop in their production of Under Cover Girls. Belinda has also danced with Roots Of Brazil under the direction of Lygia Barreto, has toured with Nigerian recording artist Wunmi, and has performed with Urban Tap. Becker’s personal works of choreography have been presented at New York City’s Joe’s Pub and the Brooklyn Bridge Anchorage.

Each week on Radio Lily, Becker graces us with her soulful mixes and informative interviews with a captivating mix of talents from the worlds of music, literature, film, and dance.

A New Yorker by way of the Caribbean, Damon DeGraff prides himself on his cool island roots, but lives his life with a sharp New York sensibility. A product of that combo is DGi Management, the NYC-based management company he owns, which handles the some of the most skilled DJ’s in the business. For this weekly radio show, Roc Box, he partners with Chris Liggio (a multi-platinum producer for Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Ghostface Killa, Musiq Soulchild, Big Sean, and Brand Nubian) and hospitality/ design guru Rob McKinley (Surf Lodge and Goldbar) to bring a sonically sensational mix of reggae, soul, and funk–a blend of beats that will make the listener feel nothing but good.

Carter Van Pelt has been documenting Jamaican popular music as a writer, radio broadcaster, and archivist since the early 1990s. He has a master’s degree in arts administration from Columbia University and his master’s thesis examined collective rights management in Jamaica. Among his published articles, two are collected as book chapters in Reggae, Rasta, Revolution, ed. Chris Potash (Schirmer Books, Simon & Schuster, 1997) and Let The Fury Have The Hour, ed. Antonio D’Ambrosio (Nation Books, 2004). Van Pelt has been featured as a guest commentator on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition and he currently hosts a show on Columbia University’s WKCR radio station. You can hear Van Pelt selecting from his vast crates each Saturday afternoon from 2 – 4pm on Radio Lily.
